Body cleanses

We are exposed to a number of toxins on a daily basis, from the foods we eat to the air we breathe. If our bodies are not effective in removing these as quickly as they are coming in, they slowly begin to accumulate and we start to experience symptoms. If left untreated, these will eventually lead to disease. A lot of us may be so used to the way we feel on a daily basis that we don’t even realise we’re toxic.

Here are some signs to look out for;

  • Fatigue
  • Bloating and gas
  • Heartburn
  • Headaches
  • Sinus problems
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Constipation and diarrhea
  • Trouble losing weight
  • Skin problems (psoriasis, rashes, acne)
  • Puffy, dark circles under the eyes
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Food cravings
  • Water retention
  • Bad breath

So what is it that we’re doing or consuming that’s making us so toxic?

  • Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers on our food if we’re not choosing organic
  • Antibiotics, steroids and regular medication
  • Alcohol, caffeine and smoking
  • Chemicals in our skin care and hair products
  • Fluoride in our toothpaste
  • Chlorine in our tap water, as well as hormones from the contraceptive pill
  • Mercury from our tooth fillings and found in large fish such as tuna
  • Alluminium in our deodorant
  • Household cleaning products
  • Stress and negative emotions
  • Dietary toxins such as refined sugar, industrial seed oils, refined flour and processed soya
  • Smoke, fumes and mould in the air

So what can we do to help our bodies?

  • Drink plenty of clean water
  • Move our bowels frequently – hot water with lemon, flaxseeds and a probiotic can help achieve this
  • Eat organic, detoxifying foods such as fruit and vegetables
  • Minimise drugs and alcohol
  • Avoid refined flour and refined sugar
  • Exercise 5X a week including sweating 3X a week
  • Supplement wisely
  • Don’t forget to relax – try yoga and breathing exercises

If you feel your body or an organ in particular needs an extra helping hand, you could try some of the following;

We can take herbs which help assist the liver such as milk thistle, dandelion, peppermint or turmeric tea and chicory root. We can conduct a three day smoothie fast with liver cleansing foods, such as carrots, beetroot and apple, which includes removal of any protein and fat.

We can also perform liver cleanses. These take five days and help to remove stones from our liver and gallbladder. These stones are filled with toxic elements which our bodies have stored in these stones to keep them from harming us. The more stones that are removed the healthier you will feel!

When our liver begins to struggle, the kidneys step in to offer up their assistance…

Simply put, drinking lots of water and herbal teas can help our kidney to eliminate toxins. We can also supplement with kidney cleansing herbs such as parsley, celery and goldenrod tea.

A sign your kidneys may be struggling is skin problems, because when at full capacity, the additional waste is passed on to the skin to eliminate.

The skin is the largest organ in our body so takes on a large role with helping us to detox. We can help our skin eliminate more toxins by using regular and infra-red saunas, steam rooms and through our sweat when exercising. Herbs or treatments particularly good for skin health is aloe vera, tea tree and drinking green tea.

Finally, poor bowel movement can lead to a build up of waste in our large intestine. We can undergo colonic irrigations which involve water gently pumped into our intestine and then released, removing waste with it. We can use coffee enemas at home to create a similar effect. We can also carry out a colon cleanse which lasts 1 week and involves a diet protocol along with supplements, and includes daily bowel movements of 3-5X a day to achieve sufficient removal. It’s amazing how good you feel afterwards!

I have completed each of these myself on multiple occasions and have felt the benefits. I did feel particularly unwell after my first colon cleanse due to the volume of toxins removed. Thereafter and ever since, I have had increased energy, improved skin and a better quality of sleep.

If you’re interested in performing any body cleanses please feel free to ask me any questions and I’d be happy to help or recommend some high quality supplements to assist you too.

Stay happy and stay healthy!
