I’ve had a few of you ask how you can tell if you’re deficient in iodine. The world health organisation estimates that over 2 billion people are deficient and Dr. Group believes nearly everyone would benefit from supplementing, even if it’s from time to time — due to a global deficiency. Mostly because our soils are now so depleted of this vital mineral.

However, for those of you who would like an at home test to perform and potentially gain some further insight, there is a method you can do.

While not 100% reliable, applying tincture of iodine to the skin is an economical method, which can help determine a metabolic deficiency of iodine. It is both a test and a treatment, since the iodine can be absorbed through the skin.

You’ll need a bottle of iodine to do this. Using a cotton swab, dab iodine on the inner upper arm, over an area measuring 2 square inches or so.

?? If the liquid stain disappears in less than 8 hours, you are very deficient in iodine.
?? If it disappears in less than 24 hours, you still need iodine.
?? If it simply stays on your arm and begins to slowly fade in colour after a full 24 hours, you are probably not deficient in iodine.

Always use a high quality product when supplementing. I use Global Healing’s iodine, which I purchase >here<

To health and happiness,
