I get asked this question a lot. Firstly it’s important to know that imbalanced hormones are in fact another symptom and are not a root cause. Often people believe their acne or weight gain or PCOS is caused by their hormones, when there is something beyond these at the root of it.

Having said that, there are ways to support and promote healthy hormones and ways to improve the internal terrain of the body, which will help bring the body back into balance and equilibrium.

WHERE TO START:

An anti-inflammatory diet supports hormones. Most importantly we must remove any food sensitivities from the diet. All the while these are consumed, they can breach the gut lining and enter the bloodstream, switching on an inflammatory response (and resulting in the food sensitivity symptoms). By removing these we can stop inflammation and then healing can begin.

Nourish the liver. Hormones are broken down in the liver so we want to support this vital organ to ensure these are broken down sufficiently. Liver nourishing herbs include milk thistle, burdock root, turmeric and bupleurum.

Remove endocrine disrupters from your environment, as these negatively impact our hormones. Examples include plastics, phthalates, BPAs, heavy metals, pesticides, etc. Reducing all chemical and toxic exposure will support healing in the body.
